Once you are in it is virtually impossible to get out. You must pay to get out, whether it be money or a job that you will have to complete. If you are lucky enough to get out you should cover up your tattoos and try to stay out of trouble. The less attention you draw to yourself the better. They think that if they end up in prison they will be protected. Gang members are more at risk in prison than on the streets. Other gangs will come after them as reverenge and to earn street credit. Gang members are respected everywhere. This is so far from the truth. No one outside of the gang will hang out with them simply because of the danger involved. They can even be banned from businesses just for being in a gang. You can protect your family from the violence that comes with being in a gang. This is not true at all. Your family becomes a target just because you are in a gang. You could loose everything at the blink of eye. Gang violence puts everyone at risk. A bullet has no name on it. You can do whatever you want, and you dont have to answer to anyone. You have to do whatever the leader tell you regardless if you want to do it or not. You are not free and might never be again. When a kid joins the gang, all hope is lost for them. If they have family and a strong support system willing to be there for them and ready to intervene at the drop of a hat they can be saved. The key is to work together to prevent them ids from joining the gangs. Once gangs establish their territory they are there for good. With help from law enforcement and the community gangs have been pushed away and communities have taken back their cities. When you are the girlfriend of a gangster you will have anything, you could ever want. This is not true at all. Gang banger girlfriends might as well wear a giant target on her back. Rivals will want to kill her, and they wont care if it is done in front of their kids. Girls are not allowed to join gangs. If you believe this, you are nave. There ae many gangs that are run solely by woman. Girl gang member are more likely to be sexually abused than other gang members. Researchers found that 62 percent of female gang members had been sexually abused or assaulted, and three-fourths said they had been physically abused. Most of the time the people who have created the gangs in the small towns most likely created the gang based off information they saw on the news. If communities work with law enforcement when the gangs are first discovered, it is highly possible to shut down the gang before it become too much trouble. The only way to get rid of a gang is put the members in jail and prison. But as I mentioned above, there will always be someone to take the place of the nest person. There are many stories if bosses running their gangs from behind bars. So just by putting them behind bars is not enough. Gangs are not the communitys problem. B) Making reference to Ovid’s Metamorphoses, discuss the ways in which William Shakespeare’s Venus and Adonis presents the relationship between love and sorrow. The relationship between Love and Sorrow is very complex in William Shakespeare’s Venus and Adonis, as the tale leaves out key parts of the myth, in order to be as entertaining as possible. The hospitality industry is a several billion dollar a year business, and having excellent management and support staff is critical to the success of the business. Management is a very important key factor within the lodging and the food and beverage industries. This is why having an excellent General Manager is so critical to the success of the many organizations that exist within the lodging and food and beverage industry. A General Manager or (GM) has broad, overall responsibility for a business or organization. A General Manager has the power to hire, fire, or promote employees. A manager may be responsible for one functional area, however the General Manager is responsible for all areas. A General Manager is responsible for higher level planning than a manager. A General Manager is often responsible for the overall strategic planning and direction of the company or organization and leaves the day-to-day management of the various functions to the managers (F. John Reh, 2013). In the lodging industry the General Manager or (GM) is responsible for making sure all facets of the hotel or lodging structure is running properly. They must provide owners with a reasonable return on investment, keep guest satisfied and returning, and keep employees happy. This may seem easy, but because there are so many interpersonal transactions and because hotels are open every day, all day, the complexities of operating become challenge that the general manager must face and overcome. The GM not only focuses on leading and operating the hotel departments but also on aspects of the infrastructure, from room atmosphere to security (Walker, 2013). If a restaurant is inside of a hotel, then the food and beverage division is overseen by the general manager of the hotel. In this scenario the person that runs the food and beverage division is referred to as the director of food and beverage. In this case, the director reports to the general manager of the hotel. However, if there is a free standing restaurant, bar, or lounge; there is a general manager who is responsible for the entire operations of that establishment. If the restaurant, bar, or lounge is a freestanding establishment, the owner will sometimes double as the general manager and do the job on their own without hiring someone. Sometimes owners will hire an individual to fill the job as General Manager, especially if they have invested in a restaurant and do not have any experience in how to run it properly. If the food and beverage establishment is located within a hotel even though the general manager is responsible for all aspects of the hotel, as stated earlier, the GM depends on the director of food and beverages to run this division. The director of food and beverage has many job duties and is responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the following departments: * Kitchen/Catering/Banquet * Restaurants/Room Service/Minibars Lounges/Bars/Stewarding When taking all of the above areas in consideration, it could be stated that it could be harder to oversee the food and beverage division within hotel than in a freestanding restaurant. This is because a freestanding restaurant does not have to oversee room service and minibars that are located in the guest rooms. When reviewing all of the depa rtments that a general manager is responsible for within the lodging and the food and beverage industries, it would make one wonder what is the overall growth rate within this industry. As far as restaurants are concerned, growth is looking strong for this year. According to the National Restaurant Association, many private sector jobs were added in the fourth quarter of 2012. â€Å"Two days after a Commerce Department release that showed real gross domestic product (GDP) contracted for the first time in more than three years, the latest jobs report boosted economic spirits with stronger than expected private sector hiring in the fourth quarter of 2012. Despite the mixed signals, the underlying fundamentals of the economy remain positive, which points toward an improving business environment in 2013 (National Restaurant Association, 2013). The restaurant industry is not the only one that has a pleasant future. The hotel industry also seems to have a bright and optimistic future. Look at what the Bureau of Labor Statistics had to say. â€Å"The vast majority of workers in the hospitality industry — more than eight out of 10 in 2004 — were employed in service and administrative support  positions. The hospitality industry requires an individual that is hard working, flexible, and a warm, confident personality. These are the following attributes a general manager should look for when hiring a potential employee. * Communication – when interviewing look for eye contact and well-formed answers to interview questions. * Multi-Tasking – look for examples from their past work indicate an ability to multi-task by asking two or three pronged questions that relate to slightly different topics. Attitude – look for a candidate that smiles and provides answers to questions that hint at optimism. * Flexibility – look for open-minded candidates who can explain to you why flexibility is important. The above qualities are exactly what an employee needs to possess in order to be an asset to the hiring organization. You were classified as male or female by your anatomical sex while your gender may be identified as the opposite. This perplex state of mind has been labeled gender maps, by John Money, as â€Å"an entity, template, or schema within the mind and brain that codes masculinity and femininity and androgyny. (Vitale 1997b) Feelings such as these could be characterized as gender identity disorder, which is defined as â€Å"the formal diagnosis used by psychologists and physicians to describe persons who experience significant gender dysphoria (discontent with the biological sex they were born with). † (Wikipedia) A distinct cause of GID is still uncertain, but research has determined there may contributing factors such as: biological and environmental theories of causation. As early as two to four years old children can show signs, but will not be diagnosed until the child has been observed for at least six months, showing certain characteristics of GID. While normal curiosity of a child would seem to be the prognosis, it could be very bewildering for a parent to realize that their child is demonstrating behavior associated with a disorder, which may trigger social bigotry. Although, these symptoms may dissipate on their own or with proper treatment, this disorder may carry on into a child’s adult life. Often leaving them perplexed, searching for their true identity, and wondering how and when to portray their real self to the world. What causes Gender identity Disorder? Though the concept of GID has been around for several decades now, the exact cause is yet fully unknown. Scientist and psychologist have created several theories trying to address this disorder of cross gender feelings. It is believed that the influence is made in the early stages of gestation, during the first 4-6 weeks of embryo development, within the womb and linked to a genetic (chromosomal) abnormalities or an imbalance in hormones during this stage of development. Environmental factors such as a parent’s disappointment in the physical sex of the child and constant verbal dissatisfaction or regret can cause the mental development to transform into the preferred gender. Some, in adolescences, feel that they are the wrong gender and take steps to become what they feel is the correct gender in their minds. There are cases where a child is born with ambiguous genitals or male and female genitals and/or reproductive organs, causing the parents to make the choice of assigning the sex of the baby after a long series of tests to try and determine the actual hormonal sex. Once a sex is assigned there is no telling if the correct one was chosen until the child has aged. People with GID may act out as the opposite sex, expressing their desire to become a member of that gender and show signs of wanting to alter their bodies (Gelfand). â€Å"This disorder may affect self-concept, choice of sexual partners, and the display of femininity or masculinity through mannerisms, behavior and dress† (Stephens). Some symptoms often displayed in children consist of disgust for their own genitals; feel rejected by peers and sometimes parents. They can feel isolated or show signs of depression. Some children express the want to be the opposite gender. The symptoms seen in adults are similar to those of a child but on a larger and more serious scale. Adults with GID may want to live with a person of the opposite sex experiencing intimate relations, some are known to dress in â€Å"drag† or what is called cross dressing to appear as the desired sex and gender, may experience anxiety, and feel isolated (Ballas). Diagnosis In order to be clinically diagnosed with GID a person must observe specific characteristics or symptoms that correlate with their age, while they are examined for at least a six month period. These demonstrated feelings and mannerisms must be unrelenting and strongly resemble the opposite sex. â€Å"For example children and adolescents would have to display four or more of the following: 1. Repeatedly stated desire to be, or insistence that he or she is the other sex. 2. In boys, preference for cross-dressing or simulating female attire. In girls, insistence on wearing only stereotypical masculine clothing. 3. Strong and persistent preferences for cross-sex roles in make believe play or persistent fantasies of being the other sex. 4. Intense desire to participate in the stereotypical games and pastimes of the other sex. . Strong preference for playmates of the other sex. † (Stephens) While adults must express these same characteristics, although, it would be clinically proven that these feelings caused great turmoil and emotional stress. These stresses would impact their social, occupational, or other aspects of their lives for normal day to day operation. Treatmen t for GID Since GID is still so unknown to the psychiatric and scientific fields of medicine, treatments have been adapted to help those diagnosed with gender identity disorder. Doctors and psychiatrist rely on the DSM-IV- TR manual to diagnose and treat patients suspected of GID. Individual and family counseling is highly recommended from child and adolescents. Counseling for children helps treat other problems that may arise on a mental level such as depression or anxiety. Exercises in raising self-esteem are often practiced with children in hopes to increase self expectance. Treatment for adults varies from person to person. Adults with this disorder are often referred to as â€Å"transsexuals† and enter counseling through support groups or individual counseling. Hormone therapy and surgical procedures can be request to a doctor in hopes to suppress biological characteristics and transform into the opposite sex. Gender reassignment surgery or â€Å"sex change† as it is often heard in modern day culture, are the finals steps for transsexuals to achieve self fulfillment in becoming the opposite sex and mentally whole with themselves. Reassignment surgery is major and cannot be reversed once the operation is complete, therefore patients opting for such a procedure must undergo extensive evaluations and transition therapy (Gelfand). To go through life being afraid of expressing yourself, to face social bigotry, and feeling something on the inside and not being able to convey this on the outside, feeling trapped. Everyday a person suffering from gender identity disorder faces these realities. In order to deal with these actualities it will take a strong family bond; medical evaluations in order to diagnose and treat; and a resilient person, willing to find their true selves and express this with out fear. While there is still much more to learn regarding this disorder, with all of the new advances in scientific research we have taken great strides in observing and aiding those affected by GID, with psychologists and medical examiners researching the disorder to doctors performing reassignment surgery. In regards to the social and medical aspects people have become more accepting and understanding of the differences and perspective of the transgender or sufferers of GID.
